Having just finished Yule be Sorry wanted to ask - when you say marzipan are you talking about that nasty yellow stuff from the shops? Or home-made almond paste with a hint of lemon juice? I loathe the former and adore the latter - and we put it on the cake in a relatively thin layer, about 0.5cm rather than 1cm.

Kim M. Watt Sadly, both! The shop-bought stuff is awful, but a friend also made me homemade marzipan at one point. I was not a convert, although admittedly it was better. I'm still very happy to stick to my marzipan-less cake :)
