Goodreads asked Steve Eaton:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Steve Eaton I've been a fan of Italian fiction for many years now. I've translated several of Pirandello's short stories for journals, and I was on the lookout for something current. By chance I picked up a paperback collection of mystery stories ("gialli") at highway rest stop in Sicily during a recent vacation. One of the best stories in that collection was by a writer/journalist named Gaetano Savatteri. So that eventually led me to his novel "La congiura dei loquaci," which I very much liked and wanted to translate. Luckily I was able to interest the publisher Italica Press in the book.
