In the early 19th century, we lost a branch of the family when an ancestor had to flee into the woods of mostly unsettled Louisiana. He had pressed his claim to his white father's inherited land. As a Black man, he was going to be lynched for daring to defend his rights under his father's will. The local sheriff was leading the mob. I'd love to know what he changed his name to and what happened to him.
