I've always read a lot, but I think it was NIGHT SHIFT, Stephen King's first short story collection, that really lit my fire to write short stories. I had written a couple of stories when I was in Jr. High, and I even tried my hand at writing a novel, but when I was in university I wrote a couple of dozen stories that were clearly inspired by King's stories.
