My strongest advice is to not be in a hurry to get published. Don't cut corners. Most stories don't have an expiration date. I've had stories published in pro markets that were originally written 30+ years ago. Aim high, always--don't sell your work short. Don't be seduced by "exposure only" markets. If you don't have an audience yet, an exposure-only publication won't do anything for you.
