I think there is two things. First, holding the physical book in your hands, something you created and made. Doesn't matter how it's received or how well it does, you still made it and that's an amazing feeling.
Second is definitely hearing from others that have read it. Again, good or bad, it's just nice to know if affected them enough to let you know.
