Goodreads asked M. Andrew McConnell:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

M. Andrew McConnell Start writing! A writer is someone who writes. When I wrote my first novel, I shared it with friends and was told: "Do not edit this. Throw this away. This is not good. You can do better." That didn't deter me from writing, but rather encouraged me to practice the craft more. Anyone can write, but not all of us can do it well when we first start. If it is going to take practice and a few tries, better to get started sooner rather than later.
