(view spoiler)[Hi Allison,
I have been a traditionally published writer of dark fantasy, alternative history , SF and horror and award winning steampunk since 2006. I am a total newbie though to getting the word out about my books other than announcements on Facebook. Being UK based, self promotion has always been seen as 'showing off'! Any tips on how to connect with readers on Goodreads gratefully received. Thoughts? (hide spoiler)]

Hi Raven,
I'm not very successful as an author, in perfect honesty, so my advice is probably not worth much. I can say, as a moderator, that it is saddening and frustrating to the mods and the group when an author clearly engages with reader-spaces solely for the sale of their books. I think people love to win books, or to get ARCs and will often talk about those, but if you want to really engage with readers, I think just joining in as a person who loves books and chatting with like-minded folks is the best way to approach groups. It's not fast, and it's not any sort of guarantee, but personally, I've loved the friendships I've made and the discussions of this art form that we've had together. That it has led to some sales is nice, but not my focus, personally. Really I think the best "marketing" you can do is to see if your publisher will host a giveaway for you, or to engage regularly as a reader who just so happens to be published. Good luck to you!

Hi Alison, I just took a peek at your summoner sister web site. From what I see the story is prevocative. What do the sisters represent to you personaly? The rules and the spirit of the rules are a great distiction. I too have troublr with this. I am now inclined to see both shades of grey and only black and white. It is a difficult position.

Hi, Allison. I've become an admirer of the way in which you have generated interest and kept the momentum of the SFFBC. Like you, I am also an author. I've just completed my 2nd book and I'm getting ready to go to market. I wonder if you would be open to a virtual coffee break so I can learn a bit about how you have maintained a social media presence on Goodreads. I am available most days. What's best for you? J
