I used to do what Leigh does in the first chapter of The Mirror (reach out to touch a mirror, hoping there would be something besides my reflection on the other side) quite often when I was very young. That, combined with a cliffhanger writing prompt, inspired the first 300 words or so of the story. From there, it grew, until I had 3 parts and over 55,000 words!
