Goodreads asked Frank C. Schwalbe:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Frank C. Schwalbe 1) Write! Don't write necessarily for publishing but sit down (or walk) and write.
2) Work on finding a flow and form for your prose that you are comfortable with. By doing so, you will develop a style that readers can identify.
3) Publishing a book is a team sport. Find friends, colleagues, book lovers or anyone else who will take the time to read your manuscripts and provide an honest opinion. Then, set your pride aside, and consider their criticism.
4) Find a good editor.
5) Particularly, if you self-publish, read the book 1,000 times before you submit it for publication. Chances are there will still be errors. Actually, consider reading it 1,005 times.
6) I found identifying an audience, helped inspire and motivate me. (See the answer to the first question.)
