Goodreads asked Larry M. Edwards:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Larry M. Edwards I met the great-grandson of a Civil War (American) veteran, and he showed me his great-grandfather's letters, diaries, and retrospective pieces he wrote following the war. None of the material had been published, and languished in boxes, almost forgotten. I told him, "These need to published so others can read this man's story." He agreed, and the rest, as the saying goes, is history. "What the Private Saw: The Civil War Letters & Diaries of Oney Foster Sweet" hit the street on April 9, 2015, the 150th anniversary of Lee's surrender to Grant at the Appomattox Court House.
