Larry M. Edwards I am working on "The Greatest Cattle Drive California to Oregon, 1837: A dramatization of the diary of Philip L. Edwards." Philip Edwards is not direct relative of mine, the surname is a coincidence, but he has a fascinating story about the first big cattle drive in North America, preceding the Texas cattle drives by 20-30 years. However, he never completed the diary, for whatever reason. So I am dramatizing his terse phrases by fleshing out his words and completing the story of how 10 men, led by fur trapper Ewing Young, drove a heard of 700 longhorn cattle from San Jose, California, to the Willamette Valley in Oregon, crossing the formidable and uncharted Siskiyou Mountains in the process.
