How do you get inspired to write?

Sherrie Miranda I have several ways that I get inspired to write. In the case of this debut novel, I often looked at photographs taken of the Salvadoran civil war. It was (and likely, still is) the most photographed war in history.
I also did short (5 min.) meditations on the characters, then I wrote in their voice. Fortunately I eventually figured out how to keep their voices in the novel. You will see what I mean when you read it!
Sometimes I listened to Latin American protest music which inspired me to give a more cultural and creative slant to the writing.
