Julia asked Jessica Day George:

Is Dacia pronounced "Da-see-a" or "Da-sha?" It looks like the first, but I recently read a book that took place in Poland, and a lot of the names used "sh" sounds, though they weren't spelled like it or Dacia. I know the "sh" sound is very popular in Eastern Europe, but Romanian isn't a Slavic language, it's a Romance language. As you can see I debated this heavily with myself before coming here.

Jessica Day George It's DAY-shuh, though technically it shouldn't be. Dacia is the ancient, pre-Roman name for the Carpathian region, and I found out after I had my heart set on naming a character after it, that it is pronounced DATCH-ee-uh, rather gutturally. Oh, well!
