Chelsea asked Mary E. Pearson:

How much did you love writing the character of the Komizar? My friend is a writer and she says her favorite part is writing the villain because she has to force herself to find things about them that she likes. What is your favorite thing about him?

Mary E. Pearson ohhhhh, yes! I did love writing him! He was both terrifying and magnetic! And very complex! That was my favorite thing. Yes, I could hate him, but he definitely had qualities that were admirable too. He manages to give his kingdom hope and at times we see his very human and vulnerable side--the side he tries to hide. But in the next breath, we see the powerful monster he is too. These many sides to the Komizar make it very difficult for Lia to understand him--and stay one step ahead of him!
