Goodreads asked Jake Enholm:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jake Enholm Writing is like driving, we all think we're pretty good at it, but most of us are fairly crappy when we start out. The key is, to know you need to work on it, and to improve. Take creative writing classes, write everyday, learn all the things you need to learn about style, grammar, plot, character building. There's a ton of stuff you have to put together. In the end, you have to be a good storyteller. Readers will forgive you if you can tell a good story, and have middling writing skills. If you have the best technical skills in the world but you can't tell a good story, no one is going to want to read you.
