Goodreads asked Mary Soon Lee:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mary Soon Lee When I first started writing, back in the Middle Ages, I wrote science fiction and fantasy short stories. After my second child was born, I switched to writing poetry, because it was easier to fit into my limited free time. Most of the poems were mainstream ones. Three years ago, I wrote a few fantasy poems instead and found it exhilarating. One of the poems, a poem about a boy and a dragon, captured me. I wrote more and more and more poems about the boy. A week ago, I finished the first draft of King Xau's story, "The Sign of the Dragon," an epic fantasy in verse.

The epic is now over three hundred poems long. The first sixty-one of these were published last year as Crowned: The Sign of the Dragon, Book 1.
