Goodreads asked S.M. Pratt:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

S.M. Pratt If you want to become a writer, sit down and build a daily writing habit. Don't try to write a perfect first draft. Just get the words out (even if they sound awful). The goal of the first draft is to get your story out of your head. Once your words are on the screen (or on paper), you'll have plenty of time to improve your story and then tighten your prose. Writing requires a lot of self-discipline. If you really want it, you'll make time for it, you'll write daily, and you'll get better at it. And don't stop reading.
