Goodreads asked Bev Walton-Porter:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Bev Walton-Porter You mean I have to choose just ONE thing? Okay. The best thing about being a writer is the FREEDOM involved with the creative process. You are in charge of the worlds and characters you create. If you write a lot of nonfiction, as I do, you are in charge of which subjects you choose to write about, and why. Being a writer is liberating in a society/world that's constantly trying to compartmentalize you and keep you in a neat, tidy box. Writing, as I'm sure it's been said many times before, is an act of rebellion.
