Two things:
- Read heaps, and read everything. You'll pick up lots of different things if you read a variety of genres.
- Just write. A lot of people tell me they 'don't have time to write' or 'they'll do it one day'. That doesn't get a book written; those are excuses. What does get a book finished is sitting down and putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. It can be tough to get started but any writing is good writing.
