Hey Maria! I was just wondering why you did a back story for Valek in Shadow Study but not in the Poison Study series? Why the change?

Hi Renetta! Sorry for the delay - I didn't see your question! I focused more on Yelena and her backstory and character arc in the first three Study books (Poison, Magic and Fire) and truthfully I didn't quite know Valek's story at that time. But for the last three Study books (Shadow, Night and Dawn), since I already showed Yelena going from victim to victor, I needed to focus more on Valek because he stayed the same in those first three books. But in the new books, I could show his backstory and character arc and it was fun to explore his world.

Hi Maria! I love your books, and characters. I started reading the Study series when I was 16 and have treasured them ever since. Something which struck me about your writing was how engaging you managed to make your fight scenes. I have often found that fighting scenes are difficult to write, do you have any tips? Thanks :)
