Maria V. Snyder Hi Rumana. I'm glad you've enjoyed my books. One of the things a writer needs to do is read a lot of books in the genre she is planning to write in - that will give you a good grasp of how stories are structured. Since you're on Goodreads, I'm assuming that won't be a problem ;) As for practicing, you just write, write, write and write some more. You can do daily writing prompts to get you started - you can journal - or write blogs. Any creative writing is good practice.

Taking writing classes and attending writing conventions will also help you learn the techniques of writing. Where to start a story and how to create characters, etc... That's what I did. I started writing short stories and felt like I didn't know enough so I started reading Writer's Digest Magazine and other how-to books (this was before the internet). Now there are lots of articles and advice online to help you (I have a bunch of articles on my website at http://www.mariavsnyder.com/advice.php).

Writing is a skill and a talent - you need the creativity to imagine stories and the skills to write them down for others to enjoy. As with any skill, the more you practice, the better you get! :)
