i onlyngave this book 3 stars, but 2.5 might be more accurate. I was interested enough to finish, but just barely. The premise is that 5 sisters grow up, leave their village, live tragic lives, then return. 3 of the 5 apparently have no morals or ethics. The pacing in the book was off. I also found modern slang in a historical fiction piece to be jarring. That, however, may have been due to the translation rather than the author’s original writing.

Diana Gabaldon
“When I asked my da how ye knew which was the right woman, he told me when the time came, I'd have no doubt. And I didn't. When I woke in the dark under that tree on the road to Leoch, with you sitting on my chest, cursing me for bleeding to death, I said to myself 'Jamie Fraser, for all ye canna see what she looks like, and for all she weights as much as a good draft horse, this is the woman.”
Diana Gabaldon, Outlander

“Sometimes I tie your words in linen with a little lavender and mint and use them as a poultice for my weary old heart.”
Duchess Goldblatt, Becoming Duchess Goldblatt

Jane Austen
“I am the happiest creature in the world. Perhaps other people have said so before, but not one with such justice. I am happier even than Jane; she only smiles, I laugh.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Patti Callahan Henry
“He closes his eyes, sets his mind’s eye on the words, and floats on them like a raft.”
Patti Callahan, Once Upon a Wardrobe

Jane Austen
“You must learn some of my philosophy. Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
