The island of San Domingo had been lost to France during the Revolution, when the local Negroes had fought for and gained their independence.
There are no 'negroes' local to San Domingo (Haiti). 'Negroes' are the descendants of enslaved West African peoples. The 'locals' to Ayiti are the Guanahatabey, Arawaks (Taino) and Caribs Nations/Peoples.
The Haitian Revolution was a bit more than local 'negroes' fighting for and gaining indeoendence, they founded a nation that still exists today.
Independent of the race or ethnicity of the people involved, it's the second colony in North America to cede from their European parent country successfully.
The Haitian Revolution is the most successful revolt of enslaved peoples in recorded history.Put some fucking respect on Haiti's Revolution.
The blatant racism both in the term 'negro' and this ahistorical downplaying of The Haitian Revolution are disappointing.
When this was written in 1964 that term was standard. However, this was revised in 2014 or 2015 and at that time, period or era specific racism ALSO needs to be updated.
This is egregious and unacceptable.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
