The problem is, you can't really skip over anything because just when things seem most dull or the characters most annoying something interesting and important happens. There are some chapters or parts of chapters which are pivotal to the story and very interesting to read. But to get to them and not miss anything important there is a lot of mire to wade through.

Unfortnately, the female characters have far exceeded the male in both number and obnoxiousness. Very few of them and in very few parts of the story are not pompous, righteous, moody little witches and that is aggravating. The skirt smoothing and braid tugging is apt to get even on the most patient nerves. Thank the Creator for character arcs like Perrin's and the appearance of the Forsaken. They give the story some much needed spice.

On the other hand, the world building and attention to detail are mind-boggling and the way Jordan weaves all the threads of the story on a huge scope is very enjoyable to follow. Even if these books are sometimes a chore to read, I am definitely caught up in this unniverse and happy that I don't have to leave it soon.

Edit 3rd read: I did not think I could possibly squeal in delight more at the briefest Asmodean appearances... but I was ever so wrong. I LOVE that moody guy.

Edit 4th read: This is where my love for Asmodean had me vandalizing a book for the first time in my life, underlining in neon marker every time he so much as breathes. Him being so close to Rand for as much time as he is given constitutes the antidote to the idiocy with all the women love interests. Also, I am laughing at my younger self who thought Perrin was interesting. Pffft! Though the last chapters in the Two Rivers were quite good. Strangely, Nynaeve does not annoy me at all this time around, I'm just waiting for her to be really awesome. And Rand? I do love Rand, though he is not even a little bit crazy, yet. *grins in anticipation of batshit craziness* ...more "
