"im really really enjoying the cadence and pacing of this plot. a little disconcerting but i like how fast the years are flying by to catch us up to the present.
the slow slide into wartime and the disassociate from the government/religious officials feels timely and real. it's heavy, but not unbearably so. also the mmc is my kinda guy." — Nov 06, 2025 12:48PM

“Life is tragic simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time. Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, the only fact we have. It seems to me that one ought to rejoice in the fact of death--ought to decide, indeed, to earn one's death by confronting with passion the conundrum of life. One is responsible for life: It is the small beacon in that terrifying darkness from which we come and to which we shall return.”

“You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one.”

“If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.”

“Pessimists are usually right and optimists are usually wrong but all the great changes have been accomplished by optimists.”

“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.”
