A divided society with oppression of the weak (aka the mortals) - a poor girl suddenly discovers her magical abilities - a family member goes missing - girl joins a rebellion against the immortal royals - a prince from said immortal race is teaming up with her against all odds. Seems familiar? Yeah. But don’t let it trick you. (Attention. The YA Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard had a similar synopsis and is still one of my favorite book series to date. Those books literally blew me away with all the betrayal and plot twists and cliffhangers).

I'm a nurse and thought about becoming a doctor for a long time, but then decided to study psychology (because it's a combination of medicine, neuroscience and sociology). So books with healers always have a special place in my heart. After reading Sword Catcher, I finally picked up this series again because I needed more of the healers. The Kindred Curse Saga isn't as technically accurate as Sword Catcher and is more loosely based on healing (less medicine, more fantasy), but I still really enjoyed the healing scenes.

I’ve first read book one and two back in the summer and reread them now in preparation for the third book. And to be honest, I’ve enjoyed the books even more the second time round. Especially for the second book have I a great fondness for and there are so many great quotes that I highlighted while reading. I really like the sloooow burn and the dynamics in the relationship between Diem and Lu. But little spoiler ahead, after two NA books without any spice, it finally happens in the third book. Again, there's a lot of teasing and a few small spicy scenes and TBH at one point I totally supported Taran's "go and finally f*ck each other". The scenes were rather less graphic and could even be classed as mature YA, but the story overall is definitely NA.

While the first book, Spark of the Everflame, is shorter and more of an introduction to the world, the second and third books are more plot-heavy. It's kind of funny how the font in the hardcover books gets smaller and smaller (and the pages double) from book to book.
