This is only the reading edition, not the variorum (which is a three volume with all the changes she made to the poems and it's full of annotations). This single volume does not have notes at all, and only has one version of each poem (it's also way cheaper than de variorum).

I noticed something thanks to this edition which I want to share: If you're a fan of Emily Dickinson's poems you may know that "her poetry is full of em dashes". Well maybe you own a copy of her poems without the em dashes and completely edited (that's awful tbh so be careful, Johnson still changed some stuff, and even nowadays we have plenty of modern editions which copy the poems of people who, before Johnson, edited her poems to a "more conventional style", tho Johnson still edited it, but kept the punctuation). But what's more interesting is that the em dashes were not necessarily "her style". She only left handwritten manuscripts with "marks" of different length, not typeset em dashes. So what Franklin says is that hyphens may correspond better to what she wrote, contrary to what we've been told all this time. She definitely had a "dashed" style and wrote plenty of marks in her poems (even vertical marks) of different lengths, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she wrote em dashes. You can check her manuscripts online and see for yourself. She also wrote letters, in fact she started with letters before the poems, so I recommend reading her letters as well. Why people still use Johnson's edition? Because it was the first time someone published her poems as she wrote them, but Franklin is the gold standard because he improved it even more, doing a better research of her manuscripts and truly preserving her unique style.

Things I found adorable about her: she loved Antony and Cleopatra (the Shakespeare play) but identified with Othello at the end of her life. Her fav book was Wilkie Collins' The woman in white (I maybe made this up, but I like to believe that's true), maybe that's why she decided to only dress in white. She had a beautiful garden. She invented free verse before it ever existed.
