Ortegas background went from wealthy- poor and then developing anti American sentiments. He easily won the public favor over Borges. We have accounts of people having blessed apparitions and the Sandinistas silencing them for they were spreading anti Sandinistas. History accounts of the first Nicaraguan catholic martyr valdiveso who spoke out to Madrid court about the crimes against nica Indians under contreras 1544

Learned about the rousted methods Sandinistas were doing; comandante Borge’s tactics were different. He placed a prison called el chipote which rounded up anyone who spoke ill of the og Sandinistas. We’re going in on Daniel Ortegas background

Everything is a disaster. Buildings, cars, sewage, and it gets worse when it rains. People are shifting the blame on the regime especially since they’re living luxurious. Eden pastora who was a Sandinista turned critic. He fled to Panama then Cuba then Guatemala to be part of a different revolution. Only to come back to Nica and start his own against Sandinistas.

Bissneros emerge as a result of the lack of supplies and food in Nicaragua from the enforced government pricing. Officers and poor people claim the products first. Drivers are sought out and prominent figures as they work like assistants and errands for officials.

Kinzers upper class nicaraguan friend Martin (Miami resident) saying that his father always warned him about communism rising and that the maids children’s will be running Nicaragua soon, is the mind that Sandinistas were trying to eradicate. I see how their message resonated with a lot of civilians in Nicaraguan. Elites hoarded goods farmers didn’t want to work. Relied on hs and college students to farm.

finding a contras base and taking pictures as a gringo journalist for NYT is bad ass. The Regan administration still lying to UN and Americans about their Involvement is deep state theory fuel. Priests calling out Sandinistas for heading to the direction Somoza was at should’ve made them aware of their actions. Instead they suppressed some news, more aggression to their opps, and more anti American sentiments.

Sandinistas having amicable relations w/ Carter was a clear indication for disaster. Especially when he had rich farmers and other wealthy exiles thriving in Miami pushing anti Sandinista propaganda and all while the looming of Regan’s presidency was approaching. I never would’ve thought Honduras would betray Nicaragua with letting CIA in their borders smh.
