I don't even know what to say. Max is clearly a psychopath, but we knew that. Crane is addicted to him in the worst way possible. Will they find some kind of HEA as the most evil couple to ever exist, or will Max drug and kill him? I genuinely have no idea rn

Max (or Eddie?) is certainly one of the most twisted and sadistic characters I have ever read about. And Crane is a thoroughly weak-willed man.

It is believable Max would get involved with the cartels via drug running but it's this ot1hwr business I'm raising my eyebrows at

oh no, the author just added a cartel in the plot and this has officially jumped the shark. Authors need to stay away from cartels, period.

This actually reminds me of 120 Day of Sodom in how this escalates

Anyone looking in could have easily mistaken this for lovemaking, but Crane recognized and accepted it for what it was. It was a defence mechanism. A coping strategy. A stalling technique. A cry for help. Crane sighed. Then why does it feel like love?

“I got distracted,” he said weakly. “You think?” Max rasped, glowering at him as he sat there hunched over, trying to catch his breath. Crane realized something and frowned. “You could have used your teeth.” Instantly, Max’s cheeks dimpled in a bright grin 💀

but, that was the problem, wasn’t it? Max being wired any other way wouldn’t be Max, and Crane would never have been attracted to him in the first place and thus wouldn’t be here, on the run in a foreign country with a price on his head, his dick lodged deep in Max’s throat while he did mental gymnastics over reciprocating the blowjob. Shaking his head, he sighed.

It was just that for Max, everything was about coercion and power, and going down on him now, stone-cold sober as he was, would be taken as some twisted victory over him, and Crane couldn’t afford to lose what tiny bit of control he still had in their relationship.

He wasn’t even angry or averse to sucking Max’s dick. Not anymore, anyway. They were well past that, and even Crane had to admit his continued shows of resistance towards actively participating in certain things were starting to seem . . . forced.

I'm saying 'claimed' because Max is saying he's gay to another stranger, and I partially think he's lying to the guy. I'm not sure that's how he identifies

there's good commentary on not judging people's sexual experiences based on who they are currently with - just because someone claims they're gay doesn't mean they've never been with a woman.

I was tempted to put this on my bisexual shelf but honestly I don't even know with these two.
