Status Updates From 傾城之戀（張愛玲短篇小說集之一）

I'm on the eponymous short story and I think this is the most riveting story so far. I'm invested in Liusu and Liuiyuan's relationship!

"Jasmine Tea" was a disturbing tale, to me. So far the themes of "love" in this book are of the transactional kind. I found this one more compelling than "Aloeswood Incense" but still felt unsatisfied at the end.

Just finished "Aloeswood Incense" and I'm not sure what to make of it so far. I can't relate to the motivations of any of the characters (probably because the societal expectations have changed significantly since this story's publication) but I also don't feel emotionally connected to them. I felt that a lot of detail was missing from the novella, but I look forward to reading the rest.
