the chapter about FDR and JFK's presidencies as well as how they dealth with ideological (and cultural) faultlines within the American upper class are very insightful because the author writes as an insider, interesting that he pinpoints the Reagan administration as when nouveau riche dethroned the old upper class of the US

interesting reading the chapter on how the strict boarding school education styles as well as tradition for Rooseveltian outdoorsry and elite military service are designed to expose each new generation of the upper class to having to survive on their own without their family's safety nets to fall back on, I recognize all that from the one upper class person I know (a Japanese Australian woman I knew in college)

now I'm at how all the trust funds and country clubs that unify the Northeastern US upper class were created in the early 19th century, and how the WASP elite became conscious of itself as a social class - the US doesn't have a traditional aristocracy (as in a hereditary peerage) like the UK does but it's interesting to see how something filling a similar function ended up existing anyway

this is a book I've been wanting to read for a long time, it's interesting how the traditional US upper class like the Rockefellers and Roosevelts have now been largely replaced at the top levels by nouveau riche like Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg and I hope this book kinda explains that
