Fascinating how close LotW came to the concept of obscurials here, given that it was years before Fantastic Beasts was even a thought in anyone's mind

Not being able to remember what I thought the first time I read this series is annoying. I want to murder Lily, but I can't remember if I did the first time too or if I was just confused as to what the fuck was going on

Seriously, melodramatic twin brother who would fit perfectly in this AU...and slightly more realistic, over everything Harry who is constantly just staring at him and going "We're not on Coronation Street. Why are you like this?"

Accidentally neglected, completely over everything Harry and a twin brother who's just as embarrassingly earnest as Connor. "You're going to catch me and stop me? Are you Batman? Go to bed, idiot."

For someone who goes on about how Gryffindor is full of saints, Connor really is a manipulative little fuck. He could use a solid smack to teach him not to use people's kindness and loyalty against them

I keep having to put this down because I can see the cringe coming. Can't wait until somewhere around book 4 when Harry stops being quite so idiotic

The melodrama of much of the dialogue in this series fits with the particular genre it's going for but my god is it fucking cringe sometimes

I can't wait until I'm far enough into the series that Gryffindor is slightly less full of self righteous pricks. Connor is annoying, but he's 12 years old. There's really no excuse for Sirius and James

There really is far too much hugging in this story

And now I've got scenes of an even more rebellious, teen angst-ridden Harry answering Lockhart's quiz with things like "What is Professor Lockhart's favourite cologne? The smell of his own shite."

Deciding to re-read this series may end up being detrimental to ever getting my own writing done

Reading this is making me want to write my own AU where Harry is neglected rather than outright abused. Every Potter twins story seems to go with intense abuse (this one being the best written of the lot), but neglect or simply being overlooked like many siblings of disabled kids could be an interesting take.

At least, if I didn't already have a massive writing project to finish XD

Turning this one into an ebook wasn't so bad. We'll see how things go as the stories and individual chapters continue to expand.

(I do need to remember to make notes as I read for things I'd like to edit. There are one or two missed section breaks in the first book and LotW's continued mixing up of 'insure' vs 'ensure' makes me twitchy)

The abuse plot starts to unravel way earlier in the series than I remembered. Very glad, since this is one of the aspects I remember liking most about these books.

I don’t remember if this point gets brought up much in later books that deal explicitly with Harry’s childhood being abusive, but I REALLY hope it does. “No, my childhood wasn’t all bad because [tangental arguable benefit]” is the most typical abused-kid reaction there is.

Having three separate people inside Harry’s head was an interesting choice for so early in the series. I find myself really liking the Occlumency stuff otherwise, though

Love the implication that adults being concerned about House rivalries is some peaked-in-high-school shit

Interesting that the Weasleys and Potters never met while they were all in the Order during the first war. I can’t recall if the author ever mentions the Order as having operated as isolated cells, which might explain that.
