Status Updates From Plays 5: Arcadia / The Real...

Hapgood: 3/5 - I would love to be like "unappreciated masterpiece! What do you all mean it's unintelligible!?" but unfortunately I found about 35% of this incomprehensible on the page. Great fun though.

Indian Ink: 3/5 - Yes, second rate Stoppard, and yes, that would be wonderful for everyone else. But *very* talky, even for him.

Night and Day: 3.5/5 - A... peculiar play. Hopelessly naïve take on the British press, very odd post-colonial commentary, reads as an excellent thriller with a wonderful creation in Ruth, played variously in the original production by Diana Rigg and Maggie Smith. Also, does the on-stage jeep here in some way anticipate the helicopter in Miss Saigon? Much to consider.

The Real Thing: 5/5 - Pretty fucking sensational.

Arcadia: 5/5 - "And everything is mixing the same way, all the time, irreversibly..." "Oh we have time, I think." "...till there's no time left."
