Read through 103 yesterday and today the passage from Isaiah chapter 50:10-11 was in my devotional. It's compelling me to investigate my own feelings and trust - am I trusting in the Lord's light, or am I trying to light my own torches?

On Isaiah 50:10-11: “God takes us into desert places without light, and he will not allow us to bring light into the desert nor will he allow us to strike stones together to start a spark. God promises torment to those who plant torches in the sand to encircle themselves and keep the beasts at bay. ‘Face the darkness with nothing but me,’ says the Lord. Simply sit.”

“I would have denied it at the time, of course, but it takes no great sleuth to deduce that my willingness to encounter God remained limited to relatively painless life experiences. If a person truly desires God, he must welcome whatever means God uses to initiate that encounter, whether laughter or grief....He was pressing in on me until I sat still and listened to his quiet voice in my own personal wilderness.”

"So short a time
To teach my life its transposition to
This difficult and unaccustomed key!"
