I looooove how Zhao Ran is all about the sun, his powers are shining and golden, his symbol is a sun, he radiates warmth, his real form is round like the sun... but he also can't stand real sunlight because it literally drains him of life, strength and even colour. He is a little fake sun of the polar night.

Volume 4! I really locked in these past few days. This novel is soooo goooooood.

Once again I'm surprised at the depth of this silly little story, no plot holes in sight. Like how Zhao Ran keeps disciplining Yu An and trying to teach him to be moral and human (because Yu An is lowkey a sociopath). Why would a monster care? Because if everything goes right, Zhao Ran will eventually come under Yu An's control and he doesn't want to become a nuke in a psychopath's hands, so he tries to prevent it.

“You might wonder: what if I lied, what if I wasn’t the monster you met? But that’s nog the most important thing. The important thing is what you would do if I really were that monster.”

Starting Volume 3, woo!

I love how Yu An’s first reaction to a heartbreak is to plan the murder of his lover, including various methods of preserving the body.

Zhao Ran is freaking out because now that Yu An has seen his monstrous real self, he might be afraid or disgusted…meanwhile:
Yu An: “Could you… let me have sex with you just once?”
Zhao Ran: “What???!!!”

Omfg Zhao Ran’s older brother is a single dad with three cute monster kids? Aaaaaa

I know Lin Qian loves her escape room scenarios but boy am I fucking confused as to what is going on right now

What came first, Yu An’s hand fetish or Yu An’s boyfriend who basically consists only of hands, hmmmmm. Cause or effect?

Zhao Ran: “you can’t just kill people” 😡
Yu An: “it’s just an NPC, why should we care whether they live or die?”
Zhao Ran: “sigh… I guess… you have a point”

This book really makes you think. Deep questions such as: “can you still call it it fingering if his fingers are basically his penis?”

(I’m both surprised the first sex scene was this early but also confused whether it even counted as sex?)

Yu An is such a weird main character. He has just murdered a man (by dismembering him. Gleefully). He keeps daydreaming about injuring the man he loves. He is such a weird little chaos gremlin and I LOVE IT.

so I just found out this is fade to black but the sequel is fully on page explicit stuff so now I gotta read real fast
