Status Updates From The Keys to my Diary ~ Fern

On this page I learned the internet and Google exist in her world and I declared this main character must be the dumbest woman on the planet with how little curiosity she has about who her billionaire boyfriend is that she doesn't bother to effing google him to learn what he does for a living. Everything about him is sus and she's sticking her head in the sand...

Does the internet not exist in this world? 'I don't know what my billionaire boyfriend does for a living or a lot about him." There seems to be phones that can pop caller ID, but I guess this could be a circa 90s story.

But if I get even a small whiff this is a post-Google world, I am crying foul.

Please tell me that at this book's climax we discover Mac is the complete fabrication of a lonely woman still stuck in her work dorm and that her diary is entirely made up because she's an unreliable narrator.

That subversion gives this book a chance to actually be good and not... Irritating.

I'm struggling to see what the point of this book is at the moment. The only set up I see so far is the inevitable ripping of The Secret. No actual plot in sight otherwise.

Also annoying is the first person narration. And that said narration reads like a basic bitch with a powerful lack of substance between her ears.

So... Not an auspicious start.
