why is it that despite the cruelties committed by the spanish friars, roman catholicism is the prominent religion in the phils? even with how the spaniards enforced their religion on the filipinos, they didn't grow resentful towards the church?

first time im reading something set in a place im familiar with (i think).

only thing is im having a hard time reading it cause the words used are so "deep". like not common words so i have to keep pausing and looking up words to understand. sometimes i just get lazy and keep reading tho. this is an interesting experience, reading in another language
