Ernest was good to Gideon. She’d known it before, but this moment made it crystallize. Had Mara ever been good to Judith? She honestly wasn’t sure.

Judith took her time in the shower, trying to come back into her body. It was hard. She felt all shaky and out of it, like she was outlined in pencil instead of inked solidly.
