Trial is over, Chester has told Kate all about his "experiences" and she believes him, there are comments from Kate's father but there is a wedding anyway, and Chester is back in the cabin in New Zealand.

Great thought from author of page 235 as Raphael speaks about the incident in the underground.

"One can easily be wrong so bear no grudges - it is one of the keys to happiness and peace."

Raphael has taken Chester through his past, highlighting events and actions. Chester has come to many realizations. Now he is re-living his time investigating the gang that ultimately caused him to go into hiding.

What a trance he must have had to have been out for completely for several days. The author has masterfully tailored and created word pictures of these encounters.

Chester in Welington on the balcony overlooking the harbor:

"Seeping into his mind was a vision of her in his arms on the balcony of his London flat. She adored the view, she'd said, then focused those beautiful, dark eyes on his and kissed him. Ouch. This hurt. Immediately he turned his back on the view and the memories and returned to the kitchen.

"Those thoughts stole his contentment."

What a great line!

Robot Mr. President has Peter doing work. Mr. President tells all about donkeys as they ride.

The president's story. Now onto the far away place.

"He'd probably never get rid of them. So what? He hadn't felt such a lift in ages and all without the benefits of liverwort; he smiled at his own thoughts. Nevertheless, he'd look carefully at any cabbages or salady stuff; something must be causing these strange nightmares. And what the heck was a "bach"."

Chester was feeling the results of kindness imparted.

Possum house. Chester has thoughts of his parents and what they tried to instill in him. He thought of how his mother would have reacted.

Chester's encounter with "M" was interesting. M stepped on the hands and heads of many for his own selfish lust for power and wealth.

So many people tend to make assumptions about others whom they do not know based on outward appearances and situations. It is important to realize that character, convictions, honor, virtues, and integrity are not necessarily absent from those who come upon hard times or desperate situations. Financial poverty does not necessarily cause character bankruptcy.

The shed is being erected. Finn and Natty will stay out of sight. That red stone keeps showing up in Chester's pocket uninvited. It must be like magic or something. Maybe it is to remind him of something and to reiterate the reality of what he keeps calling a dream.

Dr. D has come to visit, unannounced and uninvited. Are we in Australia? No, this appears to be a "red planet" somewhere. (My description.)

The vivid imagination of the author brings this to life. This may be like dreams those who have perpetrated such acts may have later in life.

This experience is finally over for Chester and he finds himself back home. He must think this was all imagination.

Pay attention to everything in Ch 1. Much of it will have impact later. Where did the little girl go? Sometimes "secret smiles" may not mean what one on the outside thinks. You can run but you can't hide.

Don't make assumptions relative to the value or outcome of others' lives. Virtue is more valuable than gold.

I spent the morning finishing this but will wait until tonight to write a review. I should have been out working in the yard, but found it difficult to put down. This is truly a book I will recommend. It is well written and the author has a vivid imagination to have put this all together as she did. Kate seems to be as a priceless pearl. Perhaps Finn and Natty are diamonds in the rough.

I just finished chapter 29 where the dinner with Kate took place. Chester revealed some personal background to Kate. Before he left, they had little time to get acquainted. Now she wants to know everything he can tell her. Of course, until the trial is over, there are things he can't reveal. Chester is a bit careful and I think he wants to remain guarded because he doesn't want to "scare" her away.

I am up to Chapter 29. Page 179ish. Chester, the godfather, is very touched at sight and the new-to-him smells of this new life. He must finally leave his cabin and secretly, quietly, and carefully return to London. He has seen Kate in passing at the office. He has made it back and is in Lord Rosen's house preparing to see his Kate. I am anxious to find out how that goes.

I am up to Chapter 27. I don't want to give too much away, but the cool mist and Phillip's conveyance of information to Chester were vividly described. I thought the "black hole" with the ring of fire provided another vivid visual of what might be. The hole under the fence was not made by a fox, was it? Jack saved Chester's life. The farmer's donkeys are missing and a dead man is in his yard.

I just finished Chapter 24. It was very well written, imaginative, and thought provoking. The author did a good job of constructing this.

There are very interesting characters who appear.

I am really enjoying reading this book. The depth of thought the author put into this is well done.

From my perspective, this is well done in the pattern of A Christmas Carol by Dickens with the author's own style, of course. This is very thought provoking.

I just finished Chapter 5. Chester goes again to the tent where the homeless couple is preparing to leave his property as he had instructed. Having dignity does not require that one has money, nor does having money equate to one's dignity. Dignity is based on another type of wealth.

Very powerful images in the chapter I just read.

Starting Chapter 4. This could be a rough ride for Chester. I think I can see the direction in which this is going. People's pasts can haunt them.

"D" sounds like a scoundrel.

Just getting started. Plot and characters are being set up.

Work is impeding progress; thus and so is life.

Planning to start this one tonight. I was trying to decide if I were going to pull one of my "old" books from my library or start one of the new ones I just ordered in hard copy. This one won.
