He becomes a doctor, helps kids, gets his dream place with his dream man, his dad is in AA, and Marty is graduating. But one client kid is dreaming of Feyd… dundundun! Fr tho clear DID metaphors again why did you make it all literal

Also, I know Jane is named after his bio mom and thats why he talks to it, but thats never said in the book. Only online. So it comes off strange

Again, cool DID metaphor and conclusion. Wicker sleeps inside. His domain and kingdom
is yours. Sick! But it was all literal instead.

The Wicker Man has been possessing Tom
the whole time. Explains his lack of changed behavior, but not Rods?

I do like the actual scary scenes. So cool in concept.

Phasing is easier. Phasing during daytime. Most intense times after Dads worst outbursts. All about DID and switching and flashbacks. They mentioned they had it worst at night

Sometimes they describe whats happening before the where. Like they said Ilia got opened the doors… to what? A car, yes bc they’re in a parking lot but. Okay.

This note from Helena for Rod and Tom to “care for one another” means nothing and adds nothing. Tom wasn’t nicer (not that we know), and we already knew Sandbag was Eliot. Also, why the Walter name diversion? System stuff or bad plot?

I wish they had either made DID more apparent, or divorced it from those concepts entirely

Okay he finally stood up to his dad a bit. But what things do these scenes add? Rod gets a small mental health break and we learn some Ilia/Leono backstory? Okay. Its so dragged out. Says so much and nothing at all. Also PLEASE learn how to write about POC it feels so yucky. You don’t need to remind me every other line about her that shes brown and looks NOT trans passing.

The book took a turn imo where they confirmed Feyd and the people are real. As if to separate this from reality. Like a “see it is horror!” Way too on the nose.

Its bad because, if this was just a horror book I could be excited for some of these characters to get their dues. But its this persona trauma retold, so the “horror” focus is on their mental illness, since all the scary stuff is a metaphor (or sometimes semi literal experience) for that. If their dad doesn’t get fucked I am losing it.

From what I understand (from watching a vid they uploaded), this is a semi autobiographical book, in a way. Their disorder takes years of trauma work to fully unpack. I feel like I am in this characters shoes, not in a good way. I too am being traumatized, and I am aware this character won’t have solace until long after this book is over.

Because this is semi authobigraphical (at least alter memories), theres a lack of author presence. I feel like I am this person, and not in the good way. I am being pulled through someone’s trauma in a hyper-horror way—trauma that will take years to actually process. From a video the author published, I am to understand they got diagnosed only months before writing this book.

Its like the author mentions something once then forgets about it until its relevant again. Like several system members huddling around the campfire. They all stay quiet and arenMt mentioned until directly addressed.

“a black guy, or girl— I couldn’t tell”
Terrible way to introduce a POC trans person 😭

Dads stroke gets him back into town? And he just goes along with everything to be the bigger man? Lame.
