It’s a constant back and forth, Andrew thinks, this something between them.

It’s a back and forth that started with the two finger salute Andrew had sent Neil when he was sprawled on the floor in Millport, the one Neil had imitated not once but twice after Andrew had given it back, continued with a truth for a truth and being accompanied by every “yes” whispered against skin and every kiss they share.

and Andrew feels like he’s alive and breathing for the first time in seven weeks, like he’s falling and falling and there is noise around him, in the silence of his mind, buzzing and loud and only for a heartbeat, and a tug hard enough low in his stomach that he feels the pull of it as if he’s a magnet and his veins are on fire, and—

And then Andrew turns away, rips his eyes away from Neil

Andrew looks at him again, the dark hair and clothing and the bright eyes, and removes his hand. There’s something blooming inside of him and Andrew buries it viciously before it has the chance to grow. His skin prickles where he had touched Neil, as if Andrew is charged with electricity.
