It was true. A noisy Ewan was a contented Ewan, one way or another. Barging into Nate’s office demanding lunch, wheedling treats out of him, interrupting him a dozen times an hour in an attempt to steal his attention.
Ewan was happy. With Nate. For some reason. And it was obvious enough that his friends had picked up on it.

“Yeah? Want me to take you out and stuff you with ribs?”
“Aye. Can I have that?”
God, he sounded uncertain. Nate closed his eyes, enjoying the giddy feeling of being the person Ewan called when he wanted to go to a kitschy, jungle-themed restaurant. It was something Nate found he very much wanted to do tonight.
