Very interesting murder mystery...!

Standard whodunit set in medieval times but with modern language. I like well-worn patterns in 12-bar blues, but this is much longer than any blues number. I’d heard that Simon R. Green has a lot of humour in his writing, but it’s not on display here.

Not what I was expecting at all. I figured it'd be an urban fantasy written in the vintage fantasy style but it's neither of those. It's very gritty and dark and turns into a murder mystery that REALLY fuckin drew me in...I'm usually not big on locked room mysteries but having it in a very fantastical setting adds a richness to it.
