A fascinating neoplatonic branch of Islam. Not much on the theology yet, but interesting to read how the whole assassin being derived from Hashish(iyya) was fake. Went from an early pejorative (from Sunnis) to the West in crusader tales, to Marco Polo, all seeing them as drugged assassins to make it make sense to Western minds. Even 19th cen orientalist scholars kept it going and it’s still common lore to this day.
