After Girl Next Door it’s time for something truly terrifying.

I’ve wanted to read this book for years. I finally got a copy and started while visiting my parents. My dad saw, downloaded the audiobook and set it to 2.2 speed. Now he keeps telling me what chapter he’s on and giving me spoilers whenever he gets ahead. It’s been three days. I am half way done and stressing out, both because of the plot and because of my dad.

Continues to be terribly written. I’m still reading because I enjoy bad fanfic.

Omg I haaaaaaaate this so far???? I’m so confused because “queer retelling of the fall of satan” is a bunch of words I like, but if I have to read about how shy and pretty Lucifer is for another 300 pages I might actually become Christian again.

I don’t think I can read any more books about the effects of social media that aren’t written by people with first hand experience of sock puppets and flame battles on live journal.

I read a short story co-written by this author in like 2009(?) and it was the scariest fiction I’ve read as an adult. It also had to do with filmmaking and it was about this naked man with a red necklace who showed up in the background of digital videos I think. I’m so happy there’s a reference to it in this book! I was like oh HO EASTER EGG. I assume it’s not gonna be a plot point. Love to see it.

I’m on chapter six and regret making it this far.

Continuing the attempt to jumpstart my brain back into action by rereading Thomas Harris novels. First time audiobooking them and I wish I could be in the FBI but I remember how much running Jodi Foster did in the movie and it’s a no for me.

Can’t concentrate on reading to save my life rn so I’m rereading this book series for like the third or fourth time since high school / college in the hopes it’ll reset or rebuild my ability to focus. I think I’ve actually read this particular novel only twice but for whatever reason these Thomas Harris crime novels are the only thing I can consistently reread. Love em.

I read two chapters and it took me what felt like a hundred thousand years. Super dry and keeps fluctuating between obvious stuff (like the definition of “content”) and then being so vague and lofty most of my annotations so far just say “wtf.” Lots of pages with bulleted lists on how the framework benefits the district. Snore.

I read the first three books in this series over a decade ago and have been haunted by the cliffhanger. I recently discovered there’s a fourth book, and in hopes that it brings narrative closure, I’m re-reading the series.

It’s long been a dream of mine to buy one of those manga that comes wrapped in plastic.

The author diligently describes every female character’s breasts, to the point that when one of the women mentions her mother, my first thought was, But what are your mother’s boobs like???
I am really looking forward to all the men in the book being killed and eaten. Hope it happens soon. Pretty enjoyable so far. I’ve heard this is super scary but so far I’m not scared. Seems like it’s about to get fun.

I don’t like not finishing books but I got into this for the cannibalism, not the Samantha Jones-esque descriptions of sexcapades. Also agree with reviewers that said 1 the author seems to think they’re being more shocking than they are and 2 there are better books I could be reading. It’s not the worst thing ever so maybe I will come back some day, with a better idea of what I’m getting into.
