Not sure about this one yet. It's mysterious, interesting, and clearly a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, with a dash of Cinderella thrown in. It seems a bit like a glorified romance novel (young adult), though. I'll have to read a little more to be sure.

I started this off, and read the introductory information, but I only read a few chapters. I liked Jane Eyre, but didn't have the patience to read this, and being aware of the general story and why it's appreciated, I wasn't interested enough to read further. I probably should, but I want to read things I'm really looking forward to and enjoying enough.

I'm continually surprised that I like these books, but they are really good.

Getting more weird, but I'll keep reading to see how it goes.

Much better second story - has the likeable characters and you-may-die-here-for-ordinary-things danger that made the first two books of The Scholomance trilogy so fun. Why did they put such an awful story first in the collection?

Probably going to leave this, as it's not really capturing my interest. The first few chapters were nice.

I really liked Naomi Novik's two books that I first read - Spinning Silver and Uprooted. Strange, beautiful and satisfying. The last book of The Scholomance was different, and I was hoping this collection would be more like those two books than the last. The first story squashed that hope, and shows that she wanted to write like this from early on. So disappointed - going to try a couple more, just in case.

This doesn't have chapters, which makes choosing a place to stop each time hard. You don't realise you've been reading for so many pages, because you're waiting for the end of a chapter, and then discover there actually aren't any. Very deceptive tactic.
