Dan, honey, I love you, but this book could have been 200 pages shorter 🩷 Yes, you did your homework and everything, but the main science revelation is… Whatever it is, it’s getting frustrating, and I have not been frustrated with a Robert Langdon book in a long, long time. I think I only hated “The lost symbol” among all.

WHERE WAS THIS BOOK ALL MY LIFE?

What I love about classic children’s literature is that you can’t go wrong with it. I will forever regret not reading more, while I was a child… Don’t get me wrong, I was reading A LOT, but books were a luxury to own back then (for me, specifically). Now I’m catching up!

The book covers of this series were pretty intriguing and I got into it just because of them. Fortunately, this one is written in a very eloquent and intelligent manner and I will continue giving it a chance.

Once you get past the (somewhat hilarious) similarities with Warcraft 3, like the liches and the (now) white haired prince Arthas gone to the dark side, the book is actually brilliant. I love how complex the world building is; the parts including medicine, alchemy, vivimancy are clearly researched so deeply, I am very impressed. The love story is not implausible and the characters are NOT annoying. Love it so far!

Ah, the misogyny pouring from half the pages of this book… No wonder, given the time and place the author lived in.

Predictable plot lines (the first mention of the dragon and the events afterwards), but at least it’s entertaining.

Divergent with dragons???????? The trial, the older good looking dude, the mean guy, early deaths… I expected more for this start. Some of the names sound LotR-inspired. I hope it does get better.

This book is 50% cringe and 50% laugh on how ridiculous everything in it is. I will finish it for the sake of the reading challenge and probably will never ever touch another of this new “romantasy” or whatever, genre, with the decorative edges etc.
