หนังสือหนามาก ยังอ่านไม่ถึงไหน แต่เท่านี้ก็เข้มข้นแล้ว เริ่มเรื่องด้วยการฟื้นคืนชีพของ Dewi Ayu โสเภณีเชื้อสายดัตช์ที่ตายไปเมื่อ 21 ปีก่อน แล้วเล่าย้อนไปถึงสมัยที่ดัตช์ล่าอาณานิคมในอินโด ก่อนเปลี่ยนมือมาเป็นญี่ปุ่นช่วงสงครามโลก มีเรื่อง comfort women อีกแล้ว

บางช่วงอ่านแล้วน้ำเน่ามากเลยแก จนนี่คิดว่าเออ ชั้นอ่านอะไรอยู่ ลิลาทำตัวน่าตบมากจนนี่คิดว่าถ้าเป็นเลนู ชั้นเลิกคบอีเพื่อนคนนี้ไปนานแล้ว แต่พอมานั่งคิดว่าเออ แล้วทำไมนางไม่เลิกคบ ก็ได้ข้อสรุปว่า ถึงลิลาจะขี้อิจ ชอบข่ม ร้ายกาจ แต่นางมีความใฝ่รู้ทะเยอทะยานที่บางทีทำร้ายคนอื่น แต่บางทีมันก็ push เราให้พัฒนาตัวเองด้วย

ลิลาที่พอตัวเองไม่ได้สิ่งที่อยากได้ แต่เพื่อนที่คิดว่าไม่น่าได้สิ่งนั้นดันได้ขึ้นมา ก็แสร้งขัดแข้งขาโดยอ้างว่าทำในนามของความหวังดีนี่เหมือนจะเคยได้เจอในชีวิตจริงเลยแฮะ

Finished Part I last night. Despite the fact that what I’d anticipated actually happens, I couldn’t help exclaiming out loud. ;(

บางช่วงอ่านแล้วแอบคิดถึง Obasan ของ Joy Kogawa ที่เล่าเรื่องครอบครัวญี่ปุ่นในแคนาดาช่วงหลังสงครามโลก คือมันมีความถูกกดขี่ กีดกันคล้ายๆ กัน ต่างกันแค่เชื้อชาติ

ช่วงแรกฟีลดูคล้าย The Good Earth / Pearl S.Buck พูดถึงความแร้นแค้นของคนเกาหลีช่วงที่ญี่ปุ่นพยายามแผ่อำนาจไปทั่วเอเชีย โฟกัสจะอยู่ที่ครอบครัวนึง เล่าชะตากรรมจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น จากเกาหลีข้ามมาโอซาก้า อ่านแล้วต้องลุ้น เจอ discrimination ทั้งเรื่องเชื้อชาติและเพศ ตอนนี้อ่านถึงรุ่นสาม (Noa) แต่เป็นรุ่นสองในญี่ปุ่น

เรื่องแรกคือ “ติดอยู่ในสถาน” สั้นเพียงหกหน้า ยังไม่ทันจะอ่านถึงครึ่งทาง ติดอยู่ที่ย่อหน้าสองของหน้าที่สาม รู้สึกจุกในอก อาการคล้ายซึมเศร้า ยิ่งอ่านยิ่งอยากร้องไห้ แง้

The story told through the eye of Father Rodrigues should have been something boring, but surprisingly, it was indeed a page-turner. Seems like some bad omen's looming ahead. What with the cunning guy Kichijiro...will he hold his faith this time or choose to apostatize again? Can't wait to learn more!
