A good read so far. Kind of predictable plot. But has been helping me get out of my reading slump!!! I’m FINALLY about to actually read and finish a book. I loved the plot of Erotic Stories for Housewives. This read is definitely more… wholesome.

Started reading at a baseball game. Finished at a pumpkin festival. Meditations on suicide - either commit physically or physiologically, or accept the absurd. My meditation on suicide involves reading in public spaces - at events others "live for." We are in a literacy crisis and carrying a book around is not performative - it is a revolutionary act. I hope the habit catches on for more than the aesthetic appeal.

I've read and reread this book many times. The writing style is hard to follow and I don't understand anything.

Omen is the word women with one letter missing.

Interesting - witchy concepts are almost always associated with femininity.

I wonder why that is?

To demonize the feminine. To rationalize control, abuse, and persecution.

Omens are often negative - a black cat crossing one's path, breaking a mirror, the evil eye. They're positive too - the four leaf clover, a butterfly in the home, getting pooped on by a bird.

I “won” this book at book club and it’s about Iceland…. Crazy coincidence bc my family just started planning a trip there. I learned that in Icelandic culture they believe in formalities less, so a mayor or a police officer is simply referred to as their first name, instead of Mr. or Sir or whatever.

Currently re-reading. I was assigned this in grade 11 English Mr. Manello’s class.

This book is so fucking good

My moms reading this book. She likes it better than Brick Lane cuz I got the large print one from the library and she finds it easier to read. I’ll update with a review when she’s done and when I’ve had the chance to read it myself
